In 2015, the year of the International Expo in Milan, the Origine Comune project was launched by ANCI Lazio. In the following four years, many municipalities in Lazio were able to find in the typical products of their territory a resource on which to reprogramme their local development. The objective of the project, shared by all participants, focused on protecting the diversity is the quality of agri-food products and, at the same time, helping to bring out the specificity of each individual municipality. The Expo was a fertile experience, in which it was possible to bring to a large international square living, real, original evidence of the food heritage distributed in the various centres of Lazio, which are often forgotten. It was a fortunate, positive experiment because alongside the great Italian products already known throughout the world, it was possible to showcase this great wealth of Italian food diversity. In this sense, Lazio was one of the few Italian regions to be present for the entire duration of the event, thus giving ANCI the opportunity to build a complete and articulated calendar. From this first experience, it was then decided to create a structured project that could accompany municipal administrations in the identity and organisational growth of the flagship products of each place. The name chosen for the project is Origine Comune, with the intention of representing these objectives.
